Our Mission
The Robert W. Hawthorn Foundation is committed to supporting organizations that educate, mentor, and empower youth in agriculture, aviation, and business. We honor the legacy of Robert W. Hawthorn, whose dedication to mentoring young men in these fields continues to inspire change. Our focus is on charitable giving that aligns with our mission of fostering knowledge and growth in future generations. Through thoughtful partnerships, we strive to uplift the next generation, ensuring they have access to resources and opportunities that pave the way for success.
Our founder Robert William Hawthorn, born and raised in Castana, IA. Graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in agriculture and later returned to get a degree in engineering. For several years after acquiring his engineering degree he was an engineer at aircraft companies and became a pilot to fly his own planes. His love for the farm always remained, leading him to return home to the farm with his father in Castana, IA. Bob enjoyed sharing his farm, business, and aviation values with young men. Young men would visit and stay at the farm to learn from Bob and be inspired with a "can do" attitude. During this time, Bob worked with several youth organizations and became a foster parent. One program placed international trainees to live and work and live with him to learn about farming. He welcomed trainees from 16 countries, creating life long friends and inspiring young men to pursue their passions.
