Our Mission

The Robert W. Hawthorn Foundation is committed to supporting organizations that educate, mentor, and empower young people in agriculture, aviation, and business. We honor the legacy of Robert W. Hawthorn, whose dedication to mentoring youth in these fields continues to inspire meaningful change. Our focus is on charitable giving that aligns with our mission of fostering knowledge, confidence, and growth in future generations. Through thoughtful partnerships, we strive to uplift the next generation, ensuring they have access to the resources and opportunities that pave the way for success.

Our Founder

Robert William Hawthorn was born and raised in Castana, Iowa. He graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in agriculture and later returned to earn a degree in engineering. Following his engineering studies, he worked for several years as an engineer in the aviation industry and became a pilot, flying his own aircraft.

Despite his success in aviation, Bob’s passion for farming remained central to his life, ultimately drawing him back home to work alongside his father in Castana. He took great pride in sharing his knowledge of farming, business, and aviation with young people. Many visited and stayed at the farm, gaining hands-on experience and being inspired by his strong “can-do” mindset.

Throughout his life, Bob actively supported youth development. He worked with several youth organizations and served as a foster parent, opening his home to young people from diverse backgrounds. One program brought international trainees to live and work on the farm, where they learned about agriculture and daily life. Over the years, Bob welcomed trainees from 16 different countries, building lifelong friendships and inspiring young people to pursue their passions with confidence and determination.
